here are some things i have learned in the last month:

the fried green tomato blt at foreign+domestic is the best hangover cure even if you don’t have a hangover.

having a dude for a roommate is the best. especially one that can rap all the words to ‘forgot about dre’.

being in a girl band is truly the best. what started out as a runaways cover band formed for a one-off gig last saturday has evolved into an actual band. being in a girl band is great because you can drink bottles of champagne at practice and be entirely too vulgar. being in a girl band is great especially when all the girls are hella down and if you start playing the riff from ‘gudbuy t’jane’ they can all start playing along with ease and then joke about how you should maybe be a slade cover band next halloween called the sladies. being in a girl band is great because before your set you all huddle in the bathroom and listen to ‘highway star’ to get pumped up. being in a girl band is awesome because instead of some dumb dude who can’t even play an instrument shit talking your abilities as a musician and claiming you’re only in the band because of your tits (and that’s where he’d be wrong, you were only in the band because the bass player met you and got a sick crush on you and had to find a way to make you hang out with him all the time!), you get pep talks about how you are fucking awesome. the sound guy at beerland asked my bandmate, ‘who is that girl playing guitar? is she in a band?’ and when she told him no, he said, ‘why the FUCK not?’

we had no lita ford but we did have a kim fowley who gave us a suitably crude introduction and threw stuff at us during the set and yelled out “DOG SHIT!” between songs. we ended up playing ‘cherry bomb’ twice, since everyone kept yelling for it. and even though i played entirely sober and then had to walk through the costumed throngs of assholes on sixth street afterwards, i had such a hard on for life that i didn’t even care. being in a band feels so purposeful, for awhile i am able to forgot that life is pointless and nothing matters. i don’t know what i am going to do with myself for the next two weeks before i go to europe. talk to you in a month, i guess.
